An alert has been sounded in the Panki area of Kanpur, after a police patrol team ran into a leopard near the Panki canal. Startled by the flashlights of the police personnel, the feral feline fled soon after. It must be noted that this is the second time in the last three months that the creature has been spotted in the area. The leopard was also sighted behind the type-6 residences of the IIT Kanpur campus last year in October.

Vikas Pandey, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, said that "an alert has been sounded in the area and locals have been instructed not to venture out late in the night alone". He further stated that the "Forest department has also been apprised and asked to install cameras around the place to monitor the leopard's movement".

The big cat, which was later spotted near Armapur Estate in Panki, has already attacked a Nilgai calf and a wild boar. All the residents in Panki and the neighboring regions are advised to be careful till the concerned authorities finally catch the wild cat.
