Kanpur has been waiting for the metro services with bated breath. The city which is termed the industrial hub of Uttar Pradesh and shares a border with the state capital has been waiting for quite some time to hear the news.

The construction on the metro project would finally begin in September. The project which has been under consideration since 2016 was approved earlier this year with a budget of 11,000 crores.

Kanpur's first Metro Route

It has finally been confirmed that the construction for Kanpur metro would begin by September. The authorities aim to get the no-objection certificates and make suitable arrangements by the end of July, so that the construction work can begin by September.

The metro route would be developed under the supervision of Kumar Keshav, MD of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation. The authorities are hopeful that Kanpur metro would start its operations by 2021.

The first ever metro route in Kanpur will run between IIT and Naubasta, including 14 elevated and 8 underground stations and would be around 23.78 kilometers in length.

The construction of the said corridor would be carried out in two phases, first with all elevated stations running from IIT to Moti Jheel and the second with the 8 underground stations between Moti Jheel and Naubasta.

the Kanpur metro also plans a second corridor, with eight overall stations, 8.60 kilometers in length and running between Agricultural University and Barra-8.

The beginning of an era of development

The Kanpur metro would undoubtedly make travelling an easy affair, it would create a network of transportation which would be far more comfortable, easy to access and affordable than the usual means of travel.

But, the new metro project is not just about connectivity, it is also about rounded growth and development.

The metro project has been the singular most important project for Lucknow, that has brought with it enormous change and development and has also changed the face of the city. Which is why, it becomes extremely important for Kanpur to have its own rapid transport system. Not just for the sake of connectivity, but also for the sake of the city's overall development.
