Newly established Sindhu Central University in Ladakh to be backed by IIT Kanpur & IIT Madras

Directors of IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras will be mentoring the establishment of the university’s academic and related activities.

A tremendous opportunity for students has risen in the mighty mountains of Ladakh in the form of a well-heeled Sindhu Central University. Established as per the Central Universities (Amendment) Act 2021, along with UT of Ladakh's territorial jurisdiction, the university will be supported fully by the Ministry of Education, Central Government.

In order to build a strong foundation, the university's quality academic and other activities will be mentored by the directors of country's eminent IITs of Kanpur and Madras.

"In its formative years, Sindhu University will be mentored by IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras," Professor Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur, took to Twitter to invite applications.

All about the new Sindhu Central University in Ladakh

Three post-graduate programmes will be offered by the new university in the first academic year 2023-24 and eligible candidates have been invited to submit online applications.

The programmes, including Masters of Technology (MTech) - Energy Technology & Policy, Masters of Technology (MTech) - Atmospheric & Climate Sciences and Masters of Arts (MA) - Public Policy, will run for a duration of two years.

The university will also run a transit campus at Ladakh, besides establishing academic laboratories, like that for atmospheric sciences and energy technology. Initially, the classes for MTech in Energy Technology and Policy will be conducted at IIT Kanpur and at IIT Madras for MTech in Atmospheric & Climate Sciences and MA in Public Policy.
