Following the inauguration of the 9-km long high-priority corridor between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel last year, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is rigorously working on the construction of the proposed 23.4 km long phase 1 metro network.

As per the recent update, the U-girder erection work at the 5.5 km long elevated section between Baradevi-Naubasta has also been initiated. Reportedly, the first U-girder of the section was erected on pillar numbers 56 and 57 in the Kidwai Nagar area on January 20th and 21st.

Elevated metro sections between Baradevi and Naubasta will include 5 stations

With this, the authority will continue the construction work on this section during which a total of 346 U-girders, weighing about 168 metric tonnes and having an average length of about 28 metres will be erected in the elevated corridor.

As per the proposed plan, the elevated metro corridor section between Baradevi and Naubasta will include 5 stations. Furthermore, the construction work on the section kicked off on August 8, 2022 while the first pier cap (pillar) was constructed on December 27.

More about the ongoing construction work

Along with this, UPMRC is simultaneously working on the underground metro section of the corridor between Chunniganj and Nayanganj.

As per the detailed project report (DPR) released by UPMRC, the metro project of the city will be finalized by the end of the year 2024. After completion, the network will help in tackling congestion and traffic woes in the city.
