Kanpur experienced biting cold on Sunday, with the minimum temperature dropping to 4.5°C—4.2 degrees below normal. This marked the coldest December day in the city in 13 years, with similar temperatures last recorded in December 2011.
The chill was intensified by icy westerly winds from the snow-clad mountains, dominating the city throughout the day. However, the strong winds led to reduced fog despite the extreme cold. Meanwhile, IMD reported a low-pressure zone forming over the Bay of Bengal, which has already caused rainfall in Southern India. This system is expected to bring further temperature dips in Kanpur and possibly, moderate rainfall in the coming days.
For today, the IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of 23°C and a minimum of 6°C. Stay warm and prepared for the continuing cold spell.
