Several features to be looked at in the study, including road safety and travel time.

In a bid to provide better services to road travelers across the state, Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has begun conducting studies aimed at upgrading 21 UP highways. Once the study is concluded, private players will be roped in to develop highways for which upgradation is found to be financially viable.

What factors will the study look at?

In order to reach a conclusion regarding the viability of these highways, UP PWD will look at a range of factors including estimated traffic volume in the near future, road safety measures, toll plaza and truck lay-by locations, assessment of environmental impact of possible upgradation and possible post-upgrade revenue generation.

It is noteworthy that the need for enhancing road connectivity across the state has been felt owing to increasing demand, which is especially been noticed in towns with high economic activity.
