40 trains to shift from Lucknow's Charbagh Railway Station, new platforms planned & more

Built in 1972, Charbagh Station manages over 240 trains daily.

To address rising congestion at Lucknow Junction (Charbagh), Indian Railways is set to shift 40 trains to Alamnagar, Transport Nagar and Utrahtia stations. Originally built in 1972 to handle far fewer services, Charbagh now manages over 240 trains daily. The redistribution of rail traffic is expected to reduce delays, decongest Charbagh Station, and improve operational efficiency.

New stations & service areas

  • Alamnagar will cater to passengers from Rajajipuram and Hardoi Road

  • Transport Nagar will serve the Kanpur Road area

  • Utrahtia, under the Amrit Bharat Station Project, will serve Sultanpur and Rae Bareli Road

Rail doubling on the bypass between Alamnagar and Utrahtia is complete. However, road connectivity remains a concern.

A new entry point to Lucknow station near Anand Nagar is currently under construction. Once completed, it will help ease vehicle congestion in the Charbagh area.
