Lucknow’s Transport Department will soon begin issuing T-series registration numbers to commercial vehicles. This marks a shift from the decades-old N-series system, which has been in use since the 1970s and is now nearly exhausted.

Lucknow’s RTO to streamline registrations

Currently, the ZN series is in use, and with all 9999 numbers nearly allocated, the RTO has decided to adopt the T-series already used in other Uttar Pradesh districts.

Under this system, QT, RT, ST, TT, UT, VT, WT, XT, YT, and ZT will be reserved for commercial vehicles, while private vehicles will continue under series like QR, QS, QU, QV, QW, QX, QY, and QZ. Officials say this change ensures smoother registration as vehicle numbers rise in Lucknow.

The RTO will soon notify the Transport Department Headquarters and Union Ministry. With vehicle registrations booming, this move aims to streamline the system and align Lucknow with state-wide practices.
