Attention, history buffs! Lucknow to soon welcome state-of-the-art 'Literacy Museum'

Somya Agarwal

Pretty much every age group has a section of people, who love to devour history through art pieces. And to further enhance our historical journey, Lucknow is all set to house a state-of-the-art Literacy Museum. This museum will encapsulate intricate literary pieces of India, journeying from ancient to present times.

This museum will be assembled by the India Literacy Board, at Literacy House on Kanpur Road. As per reports, the Ministry of Culture has allotted a budget of ₹2.5 crores for the first phase of the project.

A plethora of artefacts at your disposal

Let’s delve into the many galleries this museum will house to showcase different aspects of literacy in India and globally.

As you enter the museum, an Orientation Gallery will provide an overview of the museum, followed by a Saksharta Gallery to showcase the evolution of literacy in India and a Community and Functional Literacy Gallery to highlight the impact of literacy programs on local communities.

Further, a Children’s Gallery will be arranged to provide an interactive learning experience to young visitors and a Conservation Lab for proper care of artefacts. Additionally, a conference hall will also be constructed to facilitate discussions and event planning.

Moreover, the structure of the building will adopt sustainable architecture to facilitate fusion of environment-friendly designs with functional spaces. It will be a tribute to architect Laurie Baker, who has designed places like The Indian Coffee House in Thiruvananthapuram, among others.

The museum promises to pose as a new attraction in Lucknow for tourists as well as people coming from educational backgrounds.
