Authorities to set up 'Vanar Vans' for monkey conservation in Lucknow

Jatin Shewaramani

Urban cities frequently face the nuisance caused by monkeys. This problem mainly arises due to the expanding urban landscapes and the absence of sufficient forested areas for these primates to inhabit.

Now, with the aim of preserving the monkey population in Lucknow, different city departments, including the Lucknow Municipal Corporation, forest, and rural bodies will work on developing 'Vanar Vans' (monkey forests) at various locations within the city.

Fruit-bearing trees will be planted in 'Vanar Vans' to accommodate the primates

As part of this initiative, the departments will plant fruit-bearing tree saplings in designated areas, which will eventually grow into forests. These forests will be situated on the outskirts of the city and will serve as a sustainable habitat for the monkey population of Lucknow and its surrounding regions.

Furthermore, the authorities in Lucknow are also planning to create a dedicated forest in the Sushant Golf City area, specifically focused on cultivating various species of medicinal plants. This unique forest, which will be known as the 'Ayush Forest,' will be established by planting over 980 saplings of different medicinal plant varieties.
