Big upgrade: 5 major underpasses set to ease traffic congestion in Lucknow

Official completion timelines are yet to be announced.

Lucknow commuters can finally anticipate relief from chronic traffic jams as construction has officially begun on a series of five crucial underpasses. This collaborative project between Indian Railways, the UP State Bridge Corporation, and the PWD targets the city's worst choke points, Lohia crossing, Nirala Nagar, Ahimamau, Mithaiwala, and Khadri.

Transforming Lucknow’s traffic

The most ambitious of these is a massive 1-km underpass at Ahimamau crossing designed to improve east-west connectivity. Another key project at Lohia crossing will streamline traffic for thousands relying on overburdened overbridges.

These underpasses promise to slash detours and decongest arterial routes. While official completion timelines are yet to be announced, this infrastructure push marks a significant step in modernising Lucknow's transit network and resolving long-standing commuter frustrations.
