Charbagh & Indira Nagar identified as Lucknow's noisiest areas: IITR Report

Lucknow’s air pollution has dropped by 9-17% this year.

A new IITR report reveals that while air pollution levels in Lucknow have fallen by 9-17%, noise pollution remains dangerously high. Charbagh and Indira Nagar top the list as the city's loudest areas, exceeding safe limits in both residential and commercial zones.

Lucknow’s soundscape alarming!

Charbagh

Charbagh (84.6 dB) and Indira Nagar (71.3 dB) emerged as the noisiest spots during day and night, far exceeding the permissible 55 dB (day) and 45 dB (night) for residential zones. Even Gomti Nagar (75.2 dB) and Aliganj (74.4 dB) recorded noise levels comparable to busy traffic zones. At night, Aliganj (69.5 dB) topped the list, louder than a blaring vacuum cleaner.

Commercial areas fared worse, with Charbagh crossing 111 dB, while industrial zones like Amausi (86 dB) breached safety limits.

Though PM2.5 and PM10 levels dipped slightly, they remained above national standards, with Gomti Nagar and Chowk being the most polluted. Experts warn that prolonged noise exposure can lead to hearing loss, stress, and heart issues, while PM2.5 particles pose severe respiratory risks.

A CSIR-IITR scientist said that air pollution control measures are helping, but noise remains an ignored menace. For now, Lucknow residents must cover their ears and hope for quieter days ahead.
