According to a study conducted by King George's Medical University (KGMU), children in Lucknow are exposed to lead levels, four times higher than the permissible limit. It is noteworthy that such dangerous levels of lead exposure can cause serious damage to a child's nervous system.

The said study, which was conducted at 60 urban schools across 10 Indian districts, involved over 2000 participants between age 6 and 16. The study found that Lucknow has the second-highest level of lead content in participants, only behind the Manipal district in Karnataka.
