​COVID vaccination for children aged 12-14 to begin in Lucknow from March 16

In an attempt to boost the community immunisation level in India, the Union Health Ministry has started a countrywide vaccination drive against COVID for children now. Under the ambit of this initiative, children aged 12-14 years will be eligible to take the vaccine against COVID in Lucknow from Wednesday. At present, only those aged 15 and above are allowed to get inoculated in the country. Read on to know more about this vaccination drive that is set to start from March 16 in Lucknow.

As per the notification issued by the Union Health Ministry, all the children who fall in the bracket of 12-14 years will be eligible to get vaccinated against coronavirus now. The children will be inoculated with the Corbevax vaccine which is manufactured by Biological E. Limited, Hyderabad.

According to data, Uttar Pradesh has around 1.34 crore beneficiaries in this age group out of which around 3 lakh children reside in Lucknow alone. Notably, all the district hospitals and 19 urban health centres in Lucknow will start on-spot vaccination for children from Wednesday.

All senior citizens now eligible for a booster shot!

In addition to this, the centre has also relaxed the eligibility criteria for getting the third dose of vaccine against COVID. Currently, only those aged 60+ with any comorbidity are allowed to take this precaution dose. With the removal of this clause, all senior citizens are now permitted to take this booster shot against coronavirus. One can simply walk into the nearest centre without any registration and take the jab.
