Lalit Kala Akademi, Aliganj

The regional centre of Lalit Kala Akademi in Aliganj (near the Regional Science Centre) houses one of the largest galleries in the state. With a vast global network of artists, the gallery has displayed works by leading creators from across India and beyond.

UP State Lalit Kala Akademi, Lal Baradari

Established on February 8, 1962, the Uttar Pradesh State Lalit Kala Akademi is a government facility distinct from the Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre, which operates under the central government. In contrast, the State Lalit Kala Akademi functions under the Uttar Pradesh State Government, dedicated to the promotion of visual and applied arts, supporting artists and fostering creative exchange.

Housed within the historic Lal Baradari, built during the reign of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan as the 'Palace of Nobles,' the gallery exudes an old-world charm, blending heritage with artistic expression. The Akademi provides a dynamic platform for artists to exhibit their work, engage in discussions, and explore contemporary artistic expressions. To achieve this, it organizes state and national artist camps, bringing together senior and emerging talents from across India and abroad to create, collaborate and share techniques.

Saraca Art Gallery, Mall Avenue

Alongside being home to a world-renowned hotel and Azrak, one of the city's finest restaurants, the legendary Lebua Estate also houses an elegant art gallery.

The Saraca Art Gallery, located within the estate, is an upscale space dedicated to showcasing art, handicrafts and photography exhibitions. As a private gallery, it stands as one of Lucknow’s prominent art destinations, having hosted some of the top artists in the country.

Hussainabad Picture Gallery

Located beside the historic Clock Tower, the Hussainabad Picture Gallery is the oldest picture gallery in Lucknow. Unlike other galleries from this list that host rotating exhibitions, this historic space serves as a permanent home to some of the most legendary artworks depicting the rich history of Lucknow.

The gallery houses life-size portraits of the Nawabs of Awadh from the 19th century. These paintings offer a glimpse into the royal lifestyle of the Nawabi era. The gallery also features portraits of British-era administrators and officials, created by renowned European artists like Dawling, Gravet, and Harrison, alongside Indian artist D.S. Singh.
