Dense fog blankets Lucknow, icy winds to hit the city next week!

Knocksense Staff

The winters are officially here in Lucknow and we are all set to cuddle up in our blankets with a mug of hot chocolate and our favourite book. Lucknowites love the feeling of winter- the calm, slow paced days, catching a ray of sunlight on a foggy day, enjoying chai at their favourite stall, Lucknowites await winter every year.

Yesterday morning was one of the first day of the fog setting in on the city. From here, the fog will only get more dense in the coming days. This means that visibility will be low and commutes will be more of a chore than before. Railway authorities have announced that several trains will be cancelled or delayed from December to February due to the immense fog.

Lucknow is no stranger to fog. Just last year, the fog was extremely dense, reducing visibility to just a few metres in the months of December through February. Though the fog is a widely disliked aspect of the winters, the city is openly accepting coming of the winters and Lucknowites are eagerly waiting for the heartwarming winter specials that restaurants have to offer.

Some authorities from the met department have confirmed that mountainous regions will soon be receiving snowfall, meaning that cities in the plains will be receiving icy cold winds and thick layers of fog in the coming days.

A couple of days back, Lucknow celebrated its coldest day of the season on 3rd December, when temperatures in some areas dropped to as low as 8 degrees. Since then, the temperatures have been hovering around 9 degrees and with yesterday’s onset of fog, it is confirmed that winters are officially here and will prevent you from getting out of the warmth of your blankets in the mornings.

However, citizens of Lucknow must be wary of smog, which will certainly plague the air as the pollution in the city is ever increasing. The met department has mentioned that the winters will help in reducing the amount of pollution in the city, which is something that we eagerly look forward to.
