Infamous for causing traffic congestion on most of the routes of the city, e-rickshaws lack designated commute routes, further aggravating the traffic woes across Lucknow routes.

Now, in an effort to mitigate congestion on multiple routes within the city, the Lucknow police have introduced a proposal to implement colour coding for e-rickshaws in designated police zones. Furthermore, senior police officials will impose restrictions on the operation of e-rickshaws along 11 specific routes.

Special colour coding system to be introduced for e-rickshaws

Lucknow police have proposed a decision to the RTO to introduce a colour coding system for e-rickshaws. Under this system, each e-rickshaw will be issued a unique colour code permit. The permit will restrict the e-rickshaws to operate only within their designated zone and prohibit them from operating in other zones.

E-rickshaws will completely be prohibited for operations in areas including Hazratganj, Amausi Airport turn, Ahimamau crossing and others.

Additionally, the Lucknow police have formally submitted a written proposal to UPSRTC to impose restrictions on the movement of buses within the city areas to further decongest Lucknow city routes.
