Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0: UP to develop thematic forests statewide from July 18

These green spaces will honour nature, culture, and national icons.

After planting a record-breaking 37 crore saplings in a single day, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to kick off a new afforestation campaign with a unique twist. Starting July 18 in Mirzapur, the state will develop a series of ‘thematic forests’ under the Ek Ped Maa ke Naam 2.0 campaign.

These curated green spaces aim to deepen environmental awareness while honouring social, cultural, and national icons.

Forests to celebrate culture, clean air & community

The first forest, Eklavya Van, will mark the 150th birth anniversary of tribal hero Birsa Munda. Other forests include Oxy Van for clean air, Shakti Van for women’s empowerment, Triveni Van for Maha Kumbh 2025, Atal Van, Gopal Van, Ekta Van, and even Sindoor Van to pay tribute to fallen soldiers.

The Forest Department is treating the initiative like a festival, with events scheduled across districts throughout the monsoon. Locals are encouraged to take part, while officials ensure rigorous planning and oversight. Unique concepts like Rakshabandhan Vatika and Ek Ped Guru ke Naam add personal and emotional touchpoints, inspiring long-term public ownership.

This massive green push places UP firmly on the path toward a sustainable, eco-conscious future.
