From civic upgrades to private infra, 9 upcoming Lucknow projects to watch

Lucknow’s future is looking pretty busy.

Khushboo Ali

Lucknow has been called a city of slow charm for so long that nobody noticed the pace had changed. The change is not in the speeches. It is in the pillars, the pits and the pile of sand outside your usual chai stop. The next few years will decide how this city moves, where it grows and who gets to stay and build a career in it. The old Lucknow was never in a hurry, the new one, apparently, has a deadline.

HCLTech IT City Phase 2

For years, Lucknow’s most reliable export was its engineers, who packed off to Bengaluru, Pune and Noida and came home only for Diwali. HCLTech’s IT City Phase 2 is here to change that equation. The ₹500 crore expansion spreads across 20 acres, adding 9.5 lakh sq. ft. of built-up space, including a 5,000-seat IT building and multilevel parking. Around 6,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected, with AI, semiconductor and cybersecurity work leading the pitch.

Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport Expansion

Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is spending ₹2,394 crore on a terminal, which is a lot for a place people mostly pass through. Phase I covers over 1.15 lakh sq. m and Phase II adds 33,529.88 sq. m. Six new bays lift parking stands to 24, built for jets up to the B777. Wide-body runway extensions, a cargo hub, MRO facilities and a fourth terminal come next.

Lucknow Flood Protection & Gomti River Management

Lucknow has been promised new roads before, but never with a flood as the sales pitch. The ₹2,000 crore embankment will stretch 115 km from Faizullaganj to Naimisharanya, with a 4 to 6-lane highway on its crest. The Gomti spilled into Gomti Nagar Extension, Faizullaganj and the IIIT campus, and the ₹230-crore Rashtra Prerna Sthal was submerged as well. The Irrigation Department and LDA are drafting the DPR, with stronger dams and storm pumps alongsidNe.

IT Park in CG City Area

The LDA has recently proposed a full fledged IT park development within the CG City area set to operate under a revenue sharing model. The move could benefit around 5,000 homebuyers, with ₹2,216 crore estimated for pending infrastructure work, including roads, water supply, drainage and power facilities. However, the takeover is subject to NCLT approval.

Revival of the stalled Ansal township

Lucknow’s stalled Ansal township in Sushant Golf City could finally see a revival as the UP Cabinet clears its takeover by LDA. The move could benefit around 5,000 homebuyers, with ₹2,216 crore estimated for pending infrastructure work.

Phase 3 and 4 of Green Corridor Project

A ₹1,519 crore road is being built for people who have never once made it across Lucknow without braking. The Green Corridor runs 28 km along the Gomti, from IIM Road to Kisan Path, with no signals and no stops. The LDA is executing it with PWD and the Municipal Corporation, aiming to ease the north-south jam.

LDA Ambitious Model Townships (Varun Vihar & Naimish Nagar)

Lucknow is getting two townships on a scale most cities spend decades avoiding. Varun Vihar and Naimish Nagar, launched by the LDA on September 24 under the Mukhyamantri Shahri Vistarikaran Yojana, cover 10,680 acres with a ₹12,000 crore investment. The plan is to house over 10 lakh people in structured, modern communities, with phase one plot registrations open until October 24. Planned from the first road to the last plot, which is a luxury the old city never had.

Lucknow Outer Ring Road (Kisan Path) Industrial Belt

Lucknow’s Outer Ring Road was built to help the city avoid its own traffic. It has ended up attracting its own crowd. Kisan Path (NH-230) runs 104 km as an 8-lane expressway, widening to 10 lanes at major intersections, and ties together the Faizabad, Sultanpur, Raebareli, Kanpur and Sitapur roads. Heavy cargo now loops around the city instead of through it. Warehouses, factories and plotted colonies have settled along the route to meet it.

The Dubagga L-Shaped Flyover

Lucknow is building a flyover that will pass above a metro line, which itself passes above the road. Dubagga is about to become a three-storey junction. The ₹305.31 crore L-shaped corridor runs 1.8 km on 65 pillars, three lanes wide, from Buddheshwar Chauraha on the Kanpur Bypass to IIM Road, clearing the elevated metro by about 5.5 metres. Setu Nigam began work in September, with 1.5 to 2 years to go.
