Google Doodle celebrates pop espresso-based coffee, 'Flat White', with animated illustrations

Caffeine heads, Google Doodle is celebrating a certain coffee type today and you gotta sneak a peek into what's brewing! Take a few minutes off your time today to delve into the origins and magic of the 'Flat White', a pop espresso-based coffee.

Oh, and it turns out, March is officially the National Caffeine Awareness Month! So, while taking in account the amount of caffeine you consume and being conscious of the same, Google is right on time honouring the beloved coffee type.

All you need to know about the 'Flat White' ft Google Doodle

"The flat white is a newcomer, breaking its way into the coffee world in only the last few years or so. Unlike a cappuccino or a latte who are established friends of our taste buds, this coffee type is relatively new in our homes and coffee shops," writes Nescafe.

But, what is Flat White you ask? A mixture of micro-foamed milk over a (single or double) shot of espresso. If you're wondering what micro-foamed milk is, this is steamed milk with a velvety/glossy consistency and tiny bubbles. With a higher quantity of espresso than milk found in a cafe latte, and a thinner microfoam layer as compared to a cappuccino, the Flat White has seamlessly made its way to the top coffee choices of caffeine lovers. Basically, it is 'flatter' than a latte and cappuccino and contains lesser foam than the two.

It is touted to be created by cafe owners in Australia and New Zealand. Some also debate the first glimpse of the beverage was seen on the menus in Sydney and Auckland during the 1980s.

"Traditionally served in a ceramic cup, a flat white is made up of an espresso shot topped with steamed milk and a thin layer of microfoam... Often, baristas will show off their skills and create beautiful artwork with the pour, something that’s a common sight in many cafes across Australia and New Zealand," Google explains.

The page with the animated illustration not only shows the drink's making but also has a fun 'behind the doodle' section.

But, why March 11?

Today marks the day in 2011 when the coffee type 'flat white' officially found its way to the Oxford English Dictionary. "The flat white has since spread far across the world, delighting and becoming a staple in many nations. No matter the origins, coffee lovers worldwide agree it’s a favourite morning or arvo (afternoon) pick-me-up!" writes Google.
