Gorakhpur's Ramgarh Taal has been chosen as the key location for National Rowing camps. In collaboration with Rowing Federation of India, a national camp will be organised at the water sports complex soon and preparations for the same are in full swing.

The decision comes after Ramgarh Taal successfully hosted, in its waters, enlivening Khelo India University Games' rowing events. Moreover, the objective is to make way for international events taking place in UP's Gorakhpur.

Located at a distance of 274 kms from Lucknow (5.25 hours by road) and 369 kms from Kanpur, Ramgarh Taal can make for a calm getaway spot, especially to witness future water sports events.

A lot in store for future sports events at Ramgarh Taal

At Ramgarh Taal, an academy will be run to train the rowers and hone their skills. In order to kickstart the training with fanfare, the Uttar Pradesh government has imported 20 boats from Germany for various competitions.

A cutting-edge water sports complex, budgeted at ₹45 crores, is also slated to be built near the lake to host more such competitions around water sports in future, additional chief secretary, sports, Navneet Sehgal, confirmed.

"During the Games, officials of the Rowing Federation of India expressed desire to establish a national camp and training academy for rowing at Ramgarh Taal. Taking note of this, the state government has taken steps to set up a national camp there," he said.

In addition to the water sports complex and training academy, a rowing nursery will also be installed in Gorakhpur. For the same, a coach has been appointed with ten enthusiasts enrolled for the programme.
