Heavy vehicles to be banned on Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway for two months; here's why!

To accelerate the completion of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a two-month ban on heavy vehicles, effective after Holi until mid-May 2025. This move aims to ensure uninterrupted construction, particularly the placement of girders on the elevated road between Daroga Kheda and Bani.

Check diversion routes- 

  • Heavy vehicles from Lucknow to Kanpur will be rerouted via the Outer Ring Road through a slip road near Daroga Kheda.

  • Vehicles from Kanpur will be diverted towards Dahi Chowki or directed to the Purvanchal Expressway via Bani, Mohanlalganj, and Gosaiganj.

Light vehicles will still have access to the expressway, enjoying a smoother commute with significantly reduced congestion. The absence of trucks and multi-axle trailers will help prevent frequent traffic jams, which often occur when heavy vehicles struggle to navigate turns.

No disruptions on the greenfield route

The greenfield section of the expressway, stretching from Bani to Hinaura, remains unaffected, with land acquisition and construction progressing swiftly. With approximately 1,00,000 heavy vehicles plying daily between Lucknow and Kanpur, the ban is expected to significantly ease construction challenges and prevent traffic snarls caused by stuck trucks. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly during this period.
