The month of February in Uttar Pradesh has begun on a chilly note, intensifying up to an orange alert situation in Lucknow, on February 1. While the alert downgraded to a yellow warning on Tuesday, the winter wave is likely to persist here throughout the week. As per the IMD, maximum and minimum temperatures in the city will hover around 19-22°C and 9-11°C respectively, in the coming days.

Though the sky remained widely clear on Tuesday and Wednesday, IMD has pinned western disturbances and their cyclonic circulations to cause rainfall and thundershowers on the 3rd and 4th of February. The cold wave will occur as a state phenomenon, a meT report warned.

According to the weather bulletin released on 2nd February, dense fog, dip in temperatures and thunderstorms are also expected to engulf the state. An orange alert is likely in Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Raibareily and Varanasi since these districts are most susceptible to a cold day conditions.

Besides, thunderstorms are also expected in Lucknow, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Aligarh, Mathura etc while hail storms are likely over areas of Shrawasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, among other regions. Reportedly, all rainfall activity will peak on Thursday and subside by Friday.

Lucknow is also expected to be blanketed by fog and mist next week. On 7-8th February, the minimum temperatures are expected to drop as low as 9°C.
