Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the IPL franchise that grabbed headlines during the 2025 season auction with a record-breaking bid for Rishabh Pant, is now set to announce him as the new captain. Reportedly, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has called for an exclusive media interaction today, during which he will make the official announcement alongside unveiling the new jersey for the season.

Rishabh Pant, who previously captained Delhi Capitals in the IPL, will replace KL Rahul, who led LSG during its first three seasons. However, Rahul was not retained by the franchise for the upcoming season and will instead play for Delhi.

Acquired by LSG for a staggering ₹27 crore in this auction, Pant joins a squad that has retained several key players, including Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan.

In addition, LSG successfully bid for high-profile players such as David Miller, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram along with Indian pacers, Akash Deep and Avesh Khan. While Pooran, Marsh, Markram and Miller were all considered potential captaincy candidates, it is believed the franchise has opted for an Indian player to lead the team in the upcoming season.
