The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has issued a stay on the demolition in Akbar Nagar until March 31. In its directive, the court has instructed the residents of the slum to relocate their belongings and vacate the entire area along the banks of the Kukrail water channel by the specified date.

Furthermore, the bench has directed the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) to make sure that the displaced slum dwellers are provided economically weaker section flats, if they are willing to apply for it. Notably, Akbar Nagar residents can apply by paying a registration deposit of just ₹1,000, as opposed to the usual fees of ₹5,000.
