Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden in Lucknow continues to be a favourite amongst children, till date. This decades-old hangout location for the folks of Lucknow houses over 1,012 distinct wildlife animals comprising about 104 species. But the coolest and lesser-known part here is that you can even adopt these animals at the zoo! (not to take them home of course)

The Lucknow Zoo runs an 'animal adoption scheme' under which any person, family, institution, school, office, group, company, semi-government or governmental institution, corporation or NGO etc, can opt-in to adopt any animal. The adoption money will be utilised in maintaining the daily lifestyle of the animal in the zoo.

The adopters can pay a specified adoption amount for an annual/semi-annual/quarterly period which varies for each animal at the zoo. The authorities also feature the name of the adopter outside the enclosure of the animal, which is displayed duration the adoption duration. Furthermore, there is also a provision for giving the adopter a special admit card on demand for viewing their adopted wildlife.
