LMC begins doorstep verification to confiscate unlicensed pets in Lucknow.

As per civil regulations, pet dog owners in Lucknow must obtain an annual license from the local municipal corporation. The licenses expire on March 31 each year, necessitating renewal by dog owners. The renewal process, overseen by the LMC, incurs varying fees based on the dog's breed. According to official records, only 4,000 out of 8,200 owners have adhered to this requirement based on the previous year's data.

Owing to this, LMC has begun door-to-door verification in Lucknow. Defaulters may be subject to a hefty fine of ₹5,000 per dog or face the potential consequence of pet confiscation.

While the drive to catch the defaulters has begun, the responsible pet parents still await for the many basic amenities to be provided to them like dog parks, which are very common in metros like Mumbai & Bangalore. At the same time, it is also imperative to increase awareness about how to treat pets and strays in order to bring down cases of dog bites. The annual lincense fee was recently increased in Lucknow, and so have the troubles in keeping a pet.
