Knocksense Shorts | Lucknow University to bring back distance education & introduce online courses

The decision aims at compensating for a monetary issue & meet LU's budget deficit.

In order to strengthen student-centered approaches and leverage learning, Lucknow University (LU) has decided to be bring back its distance learning courses. The move comes after a hiatus of more than 20 years. Besides the above, LU will also be introducing full-time online degree courses.

The decision aims to compensate a budgetary issue, where the estimated revenue of the university was ₹223.32 crore (short of ₹356.02 crore) at the recent annual budget meeting for 2023-24. The main source of income in the LU budget stems from self-financed courses (pooling in about ₹86 crore), along with earnings from government grants and examinations (around ₹50 crores from each), etc.

In order to meet the aforementioned deficit and, along with it, make students and teachers more digitally engaged, the distance education programmes will augment e-learning as well as remote learning.
