In a step towards inclusivity in the medical sector, Lucknow's Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) will soon get a dedicated multidisciplinary transgender clinic to aid the community.

The announcement for the development was recently made by SGPGI director Professor RK Dhiman during an awareness workshop. "On account of poor acceptance in society, these people face difficulty and stigmatisation in accessing and utilising health care facilities,” he expressed.

The workshop, on ‘Medical Issues of Transgenders - Right To Health Initiative’, had a panel of doctors highlighting problems that the trans face and raised awareness around the access to healthcare they receive.
