Knocksense Shorts| Meta (Facebook) joins hands with UP Police to save lives in the state

Somya Agarwal

With social media ruling every aspect of human life today, it does seem relevant to have some kind of monitoring mechanism over it. Walking on these lines, a while ago Uttar Pradesh Police shook hands with the social media giant Meta (Facebook). Through this agreement, Meta Headquarters in the USA immediately sends an alert to the social media centre of UP Police headquarters through phone/e-mail, if any person posts something related to suicide or self-harm on Facebook or Instagram.

In the past year, Uttar Pradesh Police saved more than ten lives, where two of the cases were from last week. Considering the sensitivity of the issue, UP Police has come up with a detailed SOP for such cases. Authorities are making sure to create a provision for sustained follow-up and counselling by professional counsellors of UNICEF, to efficiently tackle the cases and bring a positive impact.
