Summer vacation, in primary and upper primary schools across Uttar Pradesh, has been extended on account of severe heatwave tightening its grip on the country. The vacation has been extended till June 26 in order to protect the students from the scorching heat and subsequent sunstrokes.

The schools will, however, open for a day on June 21 to mark the International Yoga Day. Initially, the schools were scheduled to reopen from June 15.

Currently, the Meteorological Department has announced a Yellow alert, warning of severe heatwaves in various districts in UP. The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council has issued and regulated a notification to all District Basic Education Officers about council schools remaining closed till June 26 and resuming classes from June 27.
