The much-awaited festive season has arrived, bringing along some great news for oenophiles in Uttar Pradesh. 'Made in UP' wine, made of extracts from guava and five other fruits, is likely to hit retail stores ahead of Diwali 2023. Crafted using locally sourced fruits, these UP-made wines will be made available in 750ml and 350ml bottles before the festival of lights.

While phase 1 will see the production of 'guava-based' wine, five other fruits will also be extracted to create variations in later phases. These will include peach, lychee, blueberry, strawberry, and mango.

In an attempt to encourage horticulturists for the said production, the government won't be levying any excise duty on the production of wine made from locally sourced fruits. Hence, boosting local wine production and giving wine lovers in the state a chance to taste wine made in UP for the first time.
