Travelling on a UP roadways bus is all set to get a wee bit costlier as the State Transport Authority has decided to hike the bus fare by 24% from the second week of February. The decision to hike the bus fare has come in view of the losses that the transport association is facing, which had reached Rs. 210 crore by December of 2022.

Auto-rickshaw fare to increase as well

The roadways bus fare, which is currently Rs 1.05 per km, will increase to Rs 1.30 per km once the revised fare is applicable. This is the first time we're seeing a hike in the roadways bus fare in the state in the last three years. Earlier, a 24% hike in the fare was announced by the State Transport Authority, which saw a 20 paise per km increase in the fare.

Furthermore, a hike in the auto-rickshaw bus fare is also expected soon as the STA has given a nod to the Auto Rickshaw Three Wheeler Sangh's proposal on Monday, Jan 30. The exact amount of increase in the auto rickshaw fare is yet to be decided. The State Transport Authority is soon expected to issue a notification for the same.
