In a significant move marking International Dog Day, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has rolled out a game-changing advisory focused on dog safety and community well-being. Aligning with Supreme Court orders and the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023, the guidelines now make pet dog licenses mandatory.

The rules also mandate that dogs be walked on a leash in public spaces, while owners are required to register their pets on the LMC’s official website. The move is part of a broader effort to reduce dog-bite incidents and promote responsible pet ownership.

The new guidelines mandate pet dog licenses and require dogs to be leashed in all public areas. A key initiative is the designation of specific feeding spots for stray dogs by Resident Welfare Associations. These spots must be located away from children's play areas, senior citizen zones, and main gates. Feeding should occur at designated times, and all dogs at these locations must be sterilised and vaccinated against rabies. The relocation of dogs has been strictly prohibited.

While prioritising public safety, these rules also encourage responsible animal care. Pet owners are urged to register their dogs on the LMC website. The corporation seeks public cooperation, emphasising that this structured approach will streamline birth control and vaccination efforts, creating a safer and more organised environment for both people and animals.
