With a 4-fold transmission speed of the coronavirus in Lucknow, the number of new cases keeps on climbing up a steep ladder. With an average rise of over 1000 cases a day, the capital has managed to record high fresh tallies every day which have increased by 1.8% in just a week. Lucknow has recorded as many as 41,091 cases since its outbreak in April, where a tally of 6719 cases was reported in a 7 day period. Cementing its place as the worst-hit district in the Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow alone has contributed to about 13% of the total 3,17,195 cases reported in the state.

Potent rise in Infection

This alarming rise in the number of cases has been the cause of concern for the state and city administration as well as medical staff who are unable to zero upon the reason of this quadrupled growth. The district administration is still devising ways to arrest the control or break the chain of virus transmission.

Faced with a dynamic surge in infections in the city, all hospitals and care centres have been directed to increase and maintain 75 per cent bed isolation and keep 25 per cent beds of ICU empty for emergency use. According to the Chief Medical Officer of Lucknow, the facilities of the Cancer Institute have been screened for a COVID Hospital and a proposal to open up a 30-bed isolation ward at the medical institute has been further extended.

The city hospitals and medical facilities have been dealing with an active tally of 9711 cases. Lucknow has recorded 5614 recoveries and 72 virus fatalities in the last week. The average rate of virus growth is soaring at 2.2% in the capital as well as the state.
