Lucknow-Gorakhpur travel to be costlier from Aug 1; check new toll rates

The 91-km Gorakhpur Link Expressway

Khushboo Ali

Starting August 1, commuters using Uttar Pradesh’s 91-km-long Gorakhpur Link Expressway will have to pay toll taxes, with rates now finalised. This move aims to streamline connectivity between Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, and nearby districts while easing traffic pressure on Lucknow-bound routes.

Now, two-wheelers will be charged ₹140 per trip, while cars and jeeps will pay ₹285. Light commercial vehicles will incur ₹440, and buses/trucks ₹840. Heavy multi-axle vehicles face higher fees, ₹1,335 for 3-6 axles and ₹1,745 for oversized vehicles (7+ axles).

Pay less for same-day return trips

The newly inaugurated 91.35 km Gorakhpur Link Expressway, built at a cost of ₹7,283 crore, will begin toll collection with traveller-friendly provisions. Vehicles making same-day return trips will pay only 160% of the one-way toll, while frequent commuters (20+ monthly trips) enjoy a 20% discount.

To further ease costs, The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is introducing monthly passes for regular travellers, valid for up to 20 round trips. Designed to cut travel time between Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, and neighbouring districts, the expressway features 16 underpasses and 35 regular crossings for seamless connectivity.

The UP government aims to recover construction costs over 15 years through toll revenue, offering balanced rates, significantly lower than other state expressways, to benefit daily commuters.
