Lucknow's metro network is set to expand as the second phase, connecting Charbagh to Vasant Kunj awaits final approval from the Centre. The ₹5,801-crore project, already greenlit by the state government, has cleared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and Network Planning Group evaluations. Now, all eyes are on the Public Investment Board (PIB) meeting set for later this month, expected to be the final hurdle before tenders are floated.

The 11.2-km corridor will feature 12 stations, 7 underground (including Charbagh, Aminabad and Chowk) and 5 elevated (like Thakurganj and Basant Kunj). While construction may take six years, UPMRC aims to finish it in four years. The groundwork, including soil testing, is 40% complete.

Once operational, phase 2 will integrate with the existing 22.87 km Airport- Munshipulia line, creating a 34 km metro network for Lucknow. Commuters can expect faster east-west connectivity, easing travel across key hubs.
