In a bid to ease congestion and improve traffic management at key intersections, the Lucknow administration is gearing up for a comprehensive road infrastructure upgrade. As part of this initiative, six major intersections will be enhanced with free left turn lanes, while nine high-risk roads will undergo safety improvements to prevent accidents. Prior to implementing these changes, UP PWD authorities conducted surveys to pinpoint existing issues across the city.
During the survey, intersections experiencing frequent congestion were identified for upgrades. These spots will be equipped with free left-turn lanes, enabling vehicles to turn left without waiting at traffic signals. The intersections slated for this improvement include:
Area near Husariya underpass
Kathauta Road at Chinhat Square
Access route moving towards Shaheed Path from Ahimamau
Samtamulak Crossing in Gomti Nagar
Avadh Square in Alambagh
Sapru Marg in Hazratganj
As part of these infrastructural upgrades, safety measures will be introduced on 9 critical roads to address accident-prone zones. The planned routes include:
The stretch from Indira Gandhi Pratishthan to the ministers' residence
Ayodhya Road near Adarsh Dham
The road from Hazratganj Intersection to Charbagh Railway Station
Footpaths along Kalidas Marg
The stretch from Kalidas Crossing to 1090 Crossing
The route from Lohia Path to Indira Gandhi Pratishthan
The stretch from Polytechnic to Lohia Path, extending to Hazratganj
Additionally, two spots along Shaheed Path are slated for these upgrades.
Once implemented, this new initiative is expected to significantly reduce traffic incidents and cut congestion at major intersections by 50-60%. The project budget has been sanctioned, and the tendering process is currently underway.
