Lucknow News | NHAI to offer a new lease of life to these highways

Khushbu Kirti

Two highways stemming from Lucknow and connecting the city to Kanpur and Ayodhya will soon be resurfaced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The existing highways will be proofed with 100mm bitumen as matrix once they are repaired.

The condition of the Lucknow-Kanpur and Lucknow-Ayodhya expressways has deteriorated and require attention and so repair work will begin soon and is slated to get completed before the monsoon season commences.

Moreover, ₹350 crore will be utilised for refurbishment of the 120 km-long Polytechnic to Ayodhya National Highway. Whereas, repair work of the 47 km-long stretch between Bani and the Jajmau Ganga bridge on Lucknow-Kanpur route has been budgeted at ₹100 crore.

Besides the above, NHAI will soon connect Lucknow, Unnao and Kanpur with a greenfield expressway.

In another significant development, NHAI has plans to expand the width of the Barabanki-Rupaidiha national highway and an agency has been shortlisted for the job. This 160-km-long route connects UP's Bahraich to Nepal's Nepalganj.
