The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has acknowledged the efforts of the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Lucknow Police for his benevolence towards stray. Officer Chiranjeev Nath Sinha has been conferred with the PETA India Award for his efforts to feed stray animals during the COVID lockdown. ADCP Sinha and his police team have been distributing bananas and chickpeas to monkeys and cows across the city.

The Lucknow Police personnel at the Khurram Nagar in the Kukrail area of Lucknow, under the ADCP's jurisdiction, fed the stray animals and monkeys during the lockdown. Reportedly, this team also conducted a similar drive during the lockdowns imposed last year also.

"There is a lot of problem in getting food for animals when the lockdown is imposed. Community animals can starve and suffer in a lockdown because they depend on our leftover foods for survival", Chiranjeev Nath Sinha highlighted in a statement. He arranged for bananas and chickpeas, which were then distributed among the strays by his team of police officers to ensure that they don't starve amid the shutdown situation.

PETA India CEO, Dr. Manilal Valliyate, said in a release on Wednesday, "PETA India is recognizing this honorable officer for lending a hand to animals in need and setting an example of compassion for everyone to follow." The Indian outfit of this global organisation is encouraging people to come forward for the benefit of the community animals. PETA India has appealed to the people to comply with the basic COVID protocols, such as wearing a mask and maintaining social distance from others when they step out to feed or attend to the strays.
