Augmenting the existing medical infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow's Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute (SGPGI) is all set to start air ambulance services soon. As per the official report, the administration has given a go ahead for this new facility and the construction of helipad is about to begin by 2022 January. Notably, the PGI administration has already filed a detailed project report for this upcoming facility.

While the land for building the helipad has already been chosen by the administration, the air ambulance service is likely to begin in the next four months. Additionally, PGI is coming up with a separate 558-bed centre for emergency medicine and advanced kidney transplant, which is under construction. Purportedly, the construction of helipad near this upcoming centre at PGI will take three months to complete.

As per the officials of the state-run hospital, this facility is aimed to boost organ transplant across Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, in case of emergency, this facility will prove to be of great help in the transfer of critical patients from one hospital to another. Strikingly, after being selected as the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation(ROTTO) PGI overlooks all government and private hospitals which provide this facility in Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, more than 40 hospitals including KGMU, Lohia Hospital, and BHU will now facilitate these transplants under the guidance of PGI.
