Following the completion of the elevated corridor connecting Faizabad Road to Sitapur Road in Lucknow, which includes two major flyovers, the government is moving forward with another significant road infrastructure project. Reportedly, UP PWD, along with UP Setu Nigam and LDA, is planning to develop an elevated corridor, spanning approximately 8–10 kilometers, connecting Polytechnic Chauraha to Indira Canal.

This massive corridor aims to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity towards Ayodhya and Gorakhpur. LDA has nearly completed the preliminary survey for the project.

More about the elevated corridor construction plan

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) recently transferred the maintenance of the Polytechnic to Indira Canal stretch to the UP Public Works Department. As a result, Setu Nigam will be assigned to construct the elevated road on this route.

Once completed, the new corridor will not only ease urban traffic but also streamline travel to eastern Uttar Pradesh. Vehicles arriving from the Sitapur side will be able to directly access Ayodhya Road via the Engineering College flyover, Khurram Nagar and Munshipulia Flyovers—significantly reducing bottlenecks on this key route.

High Court further suggests scope for metro expansion on the stretch!

Prior to the commencement of construction, illegal encroachments along the proposed stretch will be identified and cleared. The High Court’s Lucknow bench has directed the state government to prepare an integrated plan for both an elevated road and a metro rail service between Polytechnic and Kisan Path.

Furthermore, the court has granted a two-month window to finalise the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the elevated corridor.
