To ease mounting traffic pressure across the city, the Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam proposed the construction of 46 new bridges and overbridges in Lucknow. The ₹1,000 crore plan has now been finalised and sent to the state government for approval. Areas with chronic traffic jams, particularly Sarojini Nagar, are a top priority. The locality alone is set to receive 10 new bridges, mainly to ease congestion along Kanpur Road, which sees heavy evening traffic.

Area-wise breakdown of new bridges

  • Sarojini Nagar – 10

  • Malihabad – 7

  • Bakshi Ka Talab – 7

  • West Lucknow – 6

  • East Lucknow – 5

  • Central Lucknow – 5

  • North Lucknow – 3

  • Mohanlalganj – 3

Estimated 10 lakh residents to benefit

The project is expected to provide direct relief to around 10 lakh people. It will significantly reduce delays during peak office hours and school commutes and improve emergency service response times. Overall connectivity between Lucknow’s assembly constituencies is also expected to become quicker and more efficient.
