Lucknow remained covered in a mask of thick fog on Saturday morning, shrouding the city in 'zero-visibility' due to variable and calm low-level breeze. As per forecasts, similar weather conditions are expected to extend until tomorrow, after which, the days might clear up.

Though the sunrise was expected at 6:57 AM in the morning, the first speck of the sun did not penetrate through the city interiors till 10:40 AM. Besides negating the light, the blanket of fog did not let the trapped pollutants and winter cold to escape into the air, yielding the city a 'very unhealthy' 231 AQI. The temperature stalled at 12-13°C as the Lucknow sky was littered with isolated cloud cover. Visibility has been pitched at 100 metres now, signalling clear weather throughout the day.
The Met Department Report has stated that these conditions will extend up to Sunday as the western disturbances are sweeping their last blow over the city. Dragging across in the west-northwest direction at 3km/hour, the mild breeze will grip the city through the weekend, where temperatures will average at 21°C, maximum and 6°C, minimum.
Visibility is likely to improve from January 18 when a fresh spell of relatively stronger easterlies will likely cover North India. As days begin to get longer and nights shorter, the withdrawal of winter season will soon set its pace. However, the chaotic wind system and changing pressure gradient is fostering the cold, depriving the Northern belt of a pleasant weather.
