With the minimum temperature falling down to 4.5°C, Lucknow recorded the coldest winter night of the season so far. Apart from the freezing weather, the dense fog continued to add to the distress of the people in the city. Heavy fog and clouded skies along with the Westerly Winds made it extremely difficult for the Lucknowites to step outside.

Notably, the maximum temperature of the city also marked a significant decline by registering a dip in mercury lower than 9 degrees from the usual. As per the officials from the state MeT department, this drop in temperature was seen in several parts of Uttar Pradesh.

One of the main reasons behind the drop in mercury is the low-pressure atmospheric zone that has developed over central and west UP which is expected to subside gradually within two days, added the officials. However, the districts in the western parts of Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness rain during the weekend, predicts the meT department. In line with the forecast, the state meteorological department has alerted and directed the district administration to take all the measures to tackle the weather.
