Lucknow received 4.6 mm of light rainfall on Sunday, finally signalling the arrival of monsoons and relief from humid conditions. An Orange Alert is currently in effect for West Uttar Pradesh until July 2, and for East Uttar Pradesh, until July 1.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), residents can expect overcast skies with light to moderate rainfall in Lucknow. Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel to steer clear of traffic jams and waterlogged roads.
As of June 29, the Southwest Monsoon has covered all of Uttar Pradesh. Rain activity has picked up across various regions, supported by a combination of cyclonic circulation and a northward shift in the monsoon trough.
The state’s overall rain deficit has dropped to 1%.
West UP recorded 93.3 mm rainfall against the normal 82.3 mm (29% surplus)
East UP recorded 84.2 mm against a normal 101.2 mm (17% deficit)
District authorities have been asked to prepare for waterlogging, flash floods, and relief measures. Farmers are advised to ensure proper field drainage to protect crops and avoid outdoor work during lightning alerts.
Weather experts caution that rainfall will continue across northern and central UP over the next 24 hours. River and stream levels may rise, and residents are urged to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official advisories.
