Lucknow’s Charbagh railway station to get an interior overhaul by 2021!

Knocksense Staff

Lucknow’s Charbagh railway station is one of the oldest landmarks of the city and it is deservedly about to get a much needed makeover.

The station building was constructed in 1926 with themes from Mughal Architecture including domes and minars. It was intended to harmonise with the existing architecture and historical buildings of the city of Nawabs.

Why are the authorities redeveloping the station?

Lucknow is quickly emerging as a business friendly city and to cater to these needs, the government has decided to redevelop the railway station. The plan was proposed in 2017 and the project will now take three-long years to complete.

During the course of its renovation, the station will get a complete interior overhaul, making it no less than an international airport, complete with various amenities. The authorities have claimed the exterior will remain the same to maintain the heritage of the building.

Connection of the main station with the metro will be a welcome addition. The yard will be expanded to cater to the growing number of trains that will originate from the station. Moreover some diesel engines will be replaced with more powerful electric engines. In addition, two more entries and exits will be added to the existing two.

All these renovations will usher in an era of smooth travel and herald a new phase of development for Lucknow. Lucknowites are eagerly looking forward to modernising while preserving the city’s old world charm.
