Lucknow's Durga Puja pandal enters Guinness Book of World Records as the highest in the world

Khushbu Kirti

In tandem with the vivacious Durga Pujo celebrations in Lucknow, a 136 feet tall pandal was erected high in the lap of the city and has now made history! While it fascinated all the localities, most did not realise that it is THE tallest pandal to be ever constructed.

Built by the Utsav Durga Puja committee of Jankipuram, it is as high as a 14-storey building. Located in Jankipuram, this Durga Puja pandal is going down in the pages of Guinness Book of World Records for its humongous height. Prior to this, the record was held by Kolkata's pandal which was 125 ft tall.

Modelled on Chandrodaya temple

The puja pandal has been built as a replica of the upcoming Chandrodaya temple in Vrindavan. Estimated to be 700 ft, the temple is slated to be one of the tallest religious establishments in the world.

As tall as it is, the project did require a lot of effort and work. The Utsav Puja Committee, participating the the festivities for the past 28 years, has been on this project for quite a while now. The pandal has been created by some 52 artisans from Assam and Kolkata over a month's time. Reportedly, the project was budgeted at ₹32 lakhs.

“As many as 12,000 bamboos each measuring 28 to 30 feet high have been brought from Assam," shared Saurav Bandyopadhyay, chairperson of the puja committee.

Zesty Pujo celebrations

Standing tall while witnessing the zesty Pujo celebrations, the pandal was flocked by worshipers throughout the five days of the celebration.

"Every day about 70 thousand devotees come to the pandal to offer their prayers to Durga Maa", committee's General Secretary Rakesh Pandey shared. It was during the time when a team from The Guinness Book of World Records evaluated the pandal.

Shining in blue & white

Shining bright in blue and white hues and a glossy look created due to the rains, the pandal left Lucknowites in awe of its grandeur during the vibrant festivities.
