Tuesday morning in Lucknow greeted residents with light showers and a cloudy overcast, continuing the pleasant shift in weather that began on Monday. After several days of bright sunshine, the city experienced a welcome break from the intense heat and humidity. The maximum temperature on Monday dropped by 5.5°C, falling from 35.9°C on Sunday to a cooler 30.4°C, bringing much-needed relief.
Though the minimum temperature on Monday was slightly above normal at 26.7°C, the overall change in weather was a breath of fresh air.
According to the Meteorological Department, this pleasant weather is expected to last until Friday, with more rain expected across eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, as the monsoon retreats from western Rajasthan. Senior Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh predicts that a low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal will bring increased rainfall activity to central and eastern India, possibly revitalising the monsoon after September 20.
Though Lucknow and its surrounding areas have seen varied rainfall this season, with eastern UP experiencing 17% less rainfall than normal, the latest weather conditions are providing much-needed respite for residents. The capital can expect more drizzle and cooler weather over the next few days, with heavier rains predicted from September 17 to 19.
