Jatin Shewaramani

The department of pulmonary and critical care medicine (PCCM) has now come up with a comprehensive sleep disorder centre at the King George Medical University of Lucknow. The new facility will provide treatment for all types of sleep-related ailments including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

A team of experts from the dental, ENT, physiology, and other departments of KGMU have taken the initiative to provide treatment to the patients arriving at the comprehensive centre. Furthermore, the facility has also been equipped with advanced tech that will help in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.

More about the comprehensive sleep disorder centre

A total of five polysomnography systems have been installed in the comprehensive sleep disorder centre that will help in analyzing sleep patterns, respiratory rate, oxygen levels, heart rate and other vitals in the patients. After the diagnosis, a team of experts at the centre will provide medical solutions according to the patient's condition.

Reportedly, about 30% of people suffer from sleep-related disorders and the figures are rapidly increasing in adults because of the sedentary lifestyle and irregular sleep schedules.

How could sleep-related disorders affect one's lifestyle?

There is a lack of awareness regarding sleep disorders and their adverse effects among patients. However, sleep-related problems reduce overall performance in the professional and personal life of an individual. People with sleep disorders often feel lethargic, dizzy or nauseated despite having the best food and balanced diet.

Furthermore, fragmented sleep patterns and difficulty in sleep often leads to adverse metabolic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and obesity that result in respiratory and heart issues.
